It strikes me that
Bangor-on-Dee is an odd place to be searching for the proverbial
‘good thing’ on a Saturday afternoon in April, but in the Wrexham
Lager Handicap Chase (3.55), Whiskey Chaser has won his last two
starts over fences, including one over course and distance, by 92
lengths and looks worth following as he steps up in class. The
handicapper has raised him 12lb, in total, necessitating a step back
up to 0-120 company, but his sound jumping and abundance of stamina
should stand him in good stead and a hat-trick looks well within his
grasp. The Flemensfirth gelding ran as if something was amiss on his
seasonal debut at Sedgefield in December and wasn’t seen again in
public until February, but any ailment is clearly long gone and he
seems in the form of his life at present. He can provide a welcome
winner for Donald McCain, who hasn’t had a great season by his
usual high standards.
Selection:
